Z-Force is named in tribute to the Z Special Force, which was a special Australian Army unit created in World War Two to operate behind enemy lines. Z-Force’s members were from many countries and specialised in unique guerrilla warfare. Although disbanded after the war, Z-Force pioneered numerous operational techniques and tactics, many as daring as they were brilliant, that remain a model to this day.
The surviving members of Z Special Unit last marched together on Anzac Day in Sydney 2010. The extraordinary bravery of their unit and its lost brothers are honoured in this wine, which is Zonte’s Footstep finest. Each bottle of this wine sold helps support the work of Legacy South Australia.

“Shiraz (90%), Petite Sirah (10%). Matured in both French and American oak, 30% new, for 18 months. It’s a Z-Force of nature. This is a brute of a red; its dark leather, tar, blackberry and boysenberry flavours roaring through the palate in confident, if not authoritative, style. A swagger of tannin tops it all off.”

“This is an unusual blend for Australia but Zonte’s Footstep nails it. They’ve managed to tame the aggressive tannis of the petite sirah grape and the combination of petite with syrah in this expression soars. Loads of Blueberry and red-fruit notes, spicy, with impressive length and very long finish. A stunning wine. Also a platinum award-winner at the 2018 San Diego International Wine & Spirits Challenge.”

“Powerful aromas of ripe dark red fruits layered with vanillin oak. Great palate; soft and round and full bodied with a strong tannin structure and mouthfilling blackcurrant and plum flavours.”

“Opaque deep purple color. Aromas and flavors of chocolate nuts, berries and halva, coconut cream pie, and blueberry custard with a supple, vibrant, dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body and an effortless, engaging, medium-long orange marmalade on raisin toast, buttery spiced toffee, topical fruit punch, and peppery crystallized ginger finish with fine tannins and light oak. A juicy, spicy palate-stimulating red blend destined to please.”
