Z-Force is named in tribute to the Z Special Force, which was a special Australian Army unit created in World War Two to operate behind enemy lines. Z-Force’s members were from many countries and specialised in unique guerrilla warfare. Although disbanded after the war, Z-Force pioneered numerous operational techniques and tactics, many as daring as they were brilliant, that remain a model to this day.
The surviving members of Z Special Unit last marched together on Anzac Day in Sydney 2010. The extraordinary bravery of their unit and its lost brothers are honoured in this wine, which is Zonte’s Footstep finest. Each bottle of this wine sold helps support the work of Legacy South Australia.

“85% shiraz, 15% petite sirah from McLaren Vale, open and closed fermenters, matured for 18 months in new and used hogsheads. Deep, gleaming inky purple; all about hedonism: this bypasses the head, travelling through the heart and establishing a lasting friendship with the stomach. It’s the outcome of some very clever winemaking.”
Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, 1st September 2016, thewinefront.com.au
“85% shiraz, 15% petit sirah from McLaren Vale. One for the lovers of a Big Red. It’s a hulking wine. High alcohol, high impact, the throttle pulled out. Asphalt, toast, dark chocolate and blackberry, with saltbush notes infused throughout. Plenty of tannin, both grainy and ripe; grunty. A warm-the-cockles style but with a hard-stare seriousness. You have to excuse a bit of alcohol warmth and prefer your reds to be on the old-school side of town, but in that light this packs an impressive punch.”

Black garnet colour. Lively, savoury aromas and flavours of roasted peppers, dried mulberries, leather, and hung game with a satiny, lively dryish medium-to-full-body and a smooth, complex, long pomegranates, over dried tomato, crème brulee, and nuts and cedar finish with well- integrated, chewy earthy tannins and moderate oak. A seriously poise and structured shiraz blend that drinks like an old world Rhone wine.
James Suckling 3rd February 2016, www.jamessucking.com
“A bold and rich red that marries these two compatible varieties effortlessly. Plenty of dark cassis and blood plum, chocolate, mocha and liquorice, gently peppery too. It’s a big wine.
