Growing grapes and making wine is a magnificently irregular pursuit, especially wonky weather, with very few givens. However, in our beloved McLaren Vale our maritime climes produce Shiraz with the juicy milk chocolate middle palate fruit, year in year out. McLaren Vale is not only our home but also the home of our very own Chocolate Factory Shiraz

4 stars

Huon Hooke, Top Drops February 2017, www. huonhooke.com (published 04/01/17)
“Rich plum and chocolate aromas, some meaty complexity, subtle sulfides perhaps, while the palate is elegantly medium-bodied and intense, lively with fresh acidity. The wine is stylish and quite complex for its youthful age, with soft tannins; a very tasty young shiraz indeed.”

Tastings.com, New Release Wines 2016 (published 18/12/16)
“Nearly opaque garnet black color. Toasty aromas and flavors of toasted cranberry orange bread, chocolate and vanilla toffee, and cherry-blueberry tart with a satiny, tangy, fruity medium-to-full body and a tingling, delightful, medium-long cedar, minted berries, and chocolate lemon peels finish with silky, dusty tannins and moderate oak. A lovely chocolatey shiraz sipper that is sure to please.”

Jane Thomson, Taste, April 2017, p. 129

“This offers up soft, rich, velvety choc-goodness by the bucketload, balanced with lashings of blood plums and black cherries. It’s like a perfect black forest cake. Lick your fingers afterwards!”
