After making Zonte’s Footstep Rose for six vintages we named it this year in honour of all the Scarlet Ladybirds in our vineyard which eat other tiny pests like aphids and keep our fruit fabulous. Scarlet Ladybird is a serious pink drink, deep and dry, that always comes up smelling of roses. Drink well-chilled on sunny days, with lunch and laughter.
2014 Winemaker Challenge InterWine Competition (USA): Silver
The Scarlet Ladybird vineyard is on a 40 million year old alluvial plain, nestled between two
rivers adjacent to Lake Alexandrina, upstream from the River Murray’s sea mouth. It is an
oasis in a cool desert with vines planted on their own roots, in maritime red sands that sit
over pre-Cambrian Limestone and ideal for growing grapes.
This is the sixth vintage of Zonte's Footstep Rose. We named it this year in honour of all
the Scarlet Ladybirds in our vineyard which eat other tiny pests like aphids and keep our
fruit fabulous. The Scarlet Ladybird Rose is made to our house style, seriously fun, deep and dry.
Food Pairing Notes
Best drunk on a picninc rug, but not just meant for summer. A fine accompaniment to Asian cuisine, or dishes with a touch of heat. Remember though, always be a lady.
