Top Picks of the 2017 Crop

While we were off enjoying our well deserved Christmas and New Year’s break, our Wines were still hard at work.
Coming back to the office we were met with numerous pleasing mentions in the WineState 2017 Annual Edition, Best Wines of 2017.

From over 10,000 wines tasted, 8 of our Wines made the cut. But if it were up to us, they would all be number one. Here is what the Professionals had to say.

Styles –

2015 Avalon Tree Cabernet Sauvignon Tempranillo, 4 ½ stars, ‘Oak-driven nose; spicy Blackberry elements underneath. Lovely elegant Blackcurrant and Blackberry flavours with firm tannins'

2016 Dawn Patrol Pinot Noir, 4 ½ stars, ‘Complex lifted aromas of red fruits, floral and oak spice. Lovely varietal definition weight and intensity to the palate’

2014 Z Force Shiraz Petite Sirah, 4 ½ stars, ‘A complex/savoury gamey combination of aromas. The generous palate starts fruity and sweet but finishes quite savoury. Still very youthful. Needs time’

New Releases –

2017 Lady Marmalade Vermintino, 4 Stars, ‘Attractive Jasmine-like aromas and a lovely Pineapple-like freshness on the palette with some spiciness and a crisp finish'

2016 Love Symbol Grenache, 4 Stars, ‘Smells of Raspberries and Cherries with a dash of Pepper. Quite hot in the mouth. Sweet red berry fruit flavours and simple tannins’

2016 Hills are Alive Shiraz, 4 Stars, ‘Dense Blackberry fruit aromas; slight lift of spiciness. The palate is rich and clean with well-defined varietal flavours balanced by the tannins’

South Australia –

2016 Doctoressa di Lago Pinot Grigio, 4 Stars, ‘Good lifted varietal aromas of Lime zest and Pears. The palate is long and elegant with a finesse of mineral citrus flavours and crisp acid’.

2015 Lake Doctor Shiraz, 4 stars, ‘A soft and complete nose and a palate that’s elegant but also has some richness of ripe Bramble-like fruit character’

2014 Z-Force Shiraz Petite Sirah, 4 Stars, ‘Dark Brooding briary/black fruit bouquet and rich flavoursome palate with prickly tannins and warming. Slightly dry finish’.

What a way to start 2018!
